What is the Gemmers Guild?
The Gemmers Guild is being formed to help regulate the cost of ambers and keep gem cutting profitable. It will also exist to help young gemcutters (those new to the craft) by giving advice, providing helpful hints and tools and also helping provide ambers. All jewelers are welcome to the guild as well as gem suppliers.
Some more info on the current gem market:
In nexus, it is not uncommon to force crafting item prices over the max profit margins. This is due to Ee san culture trial mostly. What we have to remember is gem cutting has nothing to do with this! The whole point of getting to legendary gem cutter is to make money.
Lately there has been a sharp rise in the cost of ambers. Sellers are sure that they can get 95k or better per 100 darks. 40k per 100 regs is the norm. Some driving it up still further for 1000+ quantities. White and yellow ambers are scarce to find for 1k and 2k each.
With these prices I find that I can make cash faster just soloing and crafting dark amber than if I buy and craft. It takes roughly a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes to craft 1000 dark amber. If you pay 900k for 1000 darks, you will make 100 to 120k profit in this time period. In 20 to 30 mins, I can get 100 to 130 dark ambers in mantis and do the same. If we pay over 900k, we make even less but still takes just as long.
Why are prices so high you ask?
Well, there are many new gemcutters out there now. They are trying to buy up as many ambers as they can so they can get to legendary faster. What these young gemcutters don’t know is that the prices they have forced ambers up to now are nearing what we legendary gemmer make. If they keep this up, not only will we not see much profit, but the young gemmers who are causing this increase in cost, will only see great losses in their investments.
What can we do about it?
We can not blame the sellers of gems for the rise in cost, only ourselves. We must educate the young gemcutters on profits at legendary and that they wont see a return on investments ever if they keep buying at such prices. We must all sage prices on ambers and all of us must keep our prices uniform.
I will set prices as follows:
Reg ambers - 350c each, buy in bulk of 2000 or more at 400c each.
Dark ambers - 850c each, buy in bulk of 2000 or more at 900c each.
White ambers - 1000c each, buy in bulk at same price! These are the bread and butter of Legendary Gemmers!
Yellow ambers - 2000c each, buy in bulk at same price! These are the bread and butter of Legendary Gemmers!
